Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at the Lotte New York Palace Hotel on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). This was the first meeting between the two leaders after KP Sharma Oli took over as Nepal PM for the third time in July this year.
“The India-Nepal friendship is very robust, and we look forward to adding even more momentum to our ties. Our talks focused on issues such as energy, technology and trade,” PM Modi said while sharing pictures with KP Sharma Oli on his X account.
“The meeting was very good,” said KP Sharma Oli after his bilateral meeting with PM Modi in New York.
Notably, the Indian Prime Minister has visited Nepal five times since May 2014. His most recent trip to the neighbouring country was in 2022 on the occasion of Buddha Purnima.
PM Modi also held a bilateral meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, with a video showing the two leaders hugging each other surfacing online.
“Prime Minister expressed deep concern at the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza and the deteriorating security situation in the region and reaffirmed India’s unwavering support to the people of Palestine, including continued humanitarian assistance. He stressed that only a two State solution will deliver enduring peace and stability in the region. Recalling that India was one of the first countries to recognise Palestine, he conveyed India’s continued support to Palestine membership of the UN,” the MEA said in a statement.
PM Modi also interacted with American tech business leaders in New York and addressed members of the Indian community. He landed in New York after attending the Quad Summit hosted by outgoing US President Joe Biden in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware.
